Your Bio

Jake on the ramp at Birkenau (photo by Krysia Jacobs) is known for concentration camp photos, and award winning writing in psychotherapy and social science. Alan Jacobs was also a consultant to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (USP-Marion), and has lectured and taught in many countries.

This photo was taken while shooting a virtual tour of Auschwitz/Birkenau that can be viewed at The Cybrary of the Holocaust.

PUPTOWN USA : Puptown is a Dog Friendly Area (DFA) in Chicago's Margate Park where dogs can run and play off-leash. Built in 2000, Puptown features 16,230 square feet of fully-enclosed fun (view the site plan).

The great peanut butter machine - Framer's Market, Los Angeles.
One of my childhood memories 8, 9, 10 yrs. old.
"Mommie... Mommie let's go... Mommmmmie c'mon lets go."
"Alan... stop it! Go watch the peanut butter machine."
It exists today as it did in '44, 5, 6...
I hadn't seen it in over 50 years and just got out of the car and went right to it, so vividly impressed in my memory as it is.

Luggage taken from Jews who were brought to the camp in cattle cars in Auschwitz Museum. These names were probably the only trace of them left. photo 1995

Jews were told to bring their essential belongings on the transport to "Relocation". Immediately on unloading, these were taken away and sorted in large warehouses in a section of Birkenau nicknamed "Canada" because it was a place of abundance. After unloading their human victims, trains would be loaded with the possessions of earlier victims and sent back to Germany. These objects are often all that is left of their owners. They passed each other in opposite directions.
As late as 1980, many such objects were to be found in Berlin curio and antique shops, being the only passengers with a round trip ticket. The objects shown here were left behind when the Nazis burned Canada to the ground, lest its contents fall into the hands of the advancing Soviets. (Jacobs. (1979).
